Slovakia is going to restart a nuclear power plant it shut down in late 2008 so that it can cope with cuts in Russian gas supplies. The country closed the plant to comply with its European Union accession agreement. Prime Minister Robert Fico said the gas cuts have made this necessary. He said the country was facing a collapse of its power grid. The government declared a state of emergency on Tuesday.
